    APPOINTMENTS & LOCATIONS

    • In person: Payment may be made by cash (U.S. Dollars or Bolivianos) or credit card (Mastercard, Visa, Diners Club, Discover, American Express) paid at the time of the appointment. Please be prepared to pay with cash in case the credit verification system is temporarily unavailable. Damaged bills are not accepted.
    • By Mail: The only accepted method of payment for an adult passport renewal by mail is through Certified Bank Check (Cheque de Gerencia) issued by any Bolivian bank, for the exact amount of Bs.770.00 (Seven Hundred and Seventy Bolivianos) payable to Embajada Americana La Paz. Checks issued under a different name will have to be returned, which will result in a delay in processing the application. Please note that certified bank checks are only valid for one month once issued by the bank. We recommend you obtain the check 1-2 days prior to sending your passport application to La Paz by Federal Express to ensure it does not expire. In addition, please note the local Bolivian bank will charge you a fee for the issuance of the check. Local banks may ask you for the embassy NIT. You can provide them with the number 99001 to the name of Embajada Americana La Paz.

Passport services are by appointment only (except for Adult Passport Renewal by mail).

Please note that per Embassy security regulation, all persons who wish to appear at the appointment must register their names in the appointment system to be admitted into the embassy/consular agency. If an application will be submitted on behalf of a minor child, both the child and the parent(s) or legal guardian(s) will all need to have appointments to enter the embassy/consular agency.

Third Party Attendance at Consular Appointments

    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Third Party Attendance at Consular Appointments
Generally, immediate family members may accompany passport and CRBA applicants to their appointment interviews at a U.S. embassy or consulate, and all minor children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Passport and CRBA applicants also have the option of being accompanied by an attorney at their appointment interview. Attendance by any third party, including an attorney, accompanying an applicant is subject to the following parameters designed to ensure an orderly appointment interview process and to maintain the integrity of the adjudication of the application(s):

    • Given space limitations in the consular section, not more than one attendee at a time will be allowed to accompany an applicant (or the applicant’s parent or guardian if the applicant is a minor).
    • Attendance by an attorney does not excuse the applicant and/or the minor applicant’s parent or guardian from attending the appointment interview in person.
    • The manner in which a passport or CRBA appointment interview is conducted, and the scope and nature of the inquiry, shall at all times be at the discretion of the consular officer, following applicable Departmental guidance.
    • It is expected that attorneys will provide their clients with relevant legal advice prior to, rather than at, the appointment interview, and will advise their clients prior to the appointment interview that the client will participate in the appointment interview with minimal assistance.
    • Attorneys may not engage in any form of legal argumentation during the appointment interview and before the consular officer.
    • Attendees other than a parent or guardian accompanying a minor child may not answer a consular officer’s question on behalf or in lieu of an applicant, nor may they summarize, correct, or attempt to clarify an applicant’s response, or interrupt or interfere with an applicant’s responses to a consular officer’s questions.
    • To the extent that an applicant does not understand a question, s/he should seek clarification from the consular officer directly.
    • The consular officer has sole discretion to determine the appropriate language(s) for communication with the applicant, based on the facility of both officer and applicant and the manner and form that best facilitate communication between the consular officer and the applicant. Attendees may not demand that communications take place in a particular language solely for the benefit of the attendee. Nor may attendees object to or insist on the participation of an interpreter in the appointment interview, to the qualifications of any interpreter, or to the manner or substance of any translation.
    • No attendee may coach or instruct applicants as to how to answer a consular officer’s question.
    • Attendees may not object to a consular officer’s question on any ground (including that the attendee regards the question to be inappropriate, irrelevant, or adversarial), or instruct the applicant not to answer a consular officer’s question.
    • Attendees may not interfere in any manner with the consular officer’s ability to conduct all inquiries and fact-finding necessary to exercise his or her responsibilities to adjudicate the application.
    • During a passport or a CRBA appointment interview, attendees may not discuss or inquire about other applications.
    • Attendees may take written notes but may not otherwise record the appointment interviews.
    • Attendees may not engage in any other conduct that materially disrupts the appointment interview. For example, they may not yell at or otherwise attempt to intimidate or abuse a consular officer or staff, and they may not engage in any conduct that threatens U.S. national security or the security of the embassy or its personnel. Attendees must follow all security policies of the Department of State and the U.S. embassy or consulate where the appointment interview takes place.

Attendees may not engage in any conduct that violates this policy and/or otherwise materially disrupts the appointment interview. Failure to observe these parameters will result in a warning to the attendee and, if ignored, the attendee may be asked to leave the appointment interview and/or the premises, as appropriate. It would then be the applicant’s choice whether to continue the appointment interview without the attendee present, subject to the consular officer’s discretion to terminate the appointment interview. The safety and privacy of all applicants awaiting consular services, as well as of consular and embassy personnel, is of paramount consideration.

PASSPORT RENEWALS BY MAIL OR DROP-OFF

    PAYMENT METHODS & DETAILS

Adults who qualify and can renew their passport by mail using form DS-82 should follow these instructions instead of making an appointment. However, we do understand that obtaining that acceptable payment method for mail-in applications can be a challenge in Germany.

If payment is the only obstacle to mailing in your application, we encourage you to bring your passport application on one of our regular passport renewal drop-off (“Quick-Drop”) hours/days rather than making a personal appointment.

DS-82 Adult Passport Renewal Drop-Off times:

Berlin: See our Passport Wizard for information on DS-82 renewal options

    Frankfurt: None, by appointment only.

Munich: any Monday or Tuesday, between 13:00-14:00 (except U.S. or German holidays)

Please do NOT send your application to the National Passport Processing Center in the United States, or it will significantly delay your application!

Third Party Attendance at Passport and CRBA Appointment Interviews

Generally, immediate family members may accompany passport or CRBA applicants to their appointment interviews at a U.S. embassy or consulate, and all minor children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Passport or CRBA applicants also have the option of being accompanied by an attorney at their appointment interview.

    • During a passport or CRBA appointment interview, attendees may not discuss or inquire about other applications.
    • Attendees may not engage in any conduct that violates this policy and/or otherwise materially disrupts the appointment interview.

WARNING: False statements made knowingly and willfully in passport applications, including affidavits or other documents submitted to support this application, are punishable by fine and/or imprisonment under U.S. law including the provisions of 18 U.S.C. 1001, 18 U.S.C. 1542, and/or 18 U.S.C. 1621. All statements and documents are subject to verification.

    PAYMENT METHODS & DETAILS

    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

We accept US Dollars, Nepali Rupees and U.S. Credit Cards for the payment. Please note that if you are paying in cash, do not mix the two currencies (US Dollars and Nepali rupees) to make the payment.

Please Note: because passports are printed in the United States, it may take up to three weeks for your new passport to be ready for pick-up at the Embassy. All passport services must be done in person at the Embassy.

For the safety of applicants and Embassy staff, we will be taking measures to limit interaction and the exchange of items whenever possible. For this reason, your interview experience will be different than previous visits. You must follow these rules, as well as all guidance given by Embassy security, at all times.

Please do not show up more than 10 minutes early to your appointment. It is essential that we do not have large groups in our waiting areas, so it is important that everyone arrive according to the appointed time.

We are not able to store any bags or belongings. Cell phones and other electronics are not allowed into the Embassy. You must make arrangements so that you arrive at the Embassy with only your passport and required interview materials, including your photo. If you have electronics, bags and wallets with you, you will not be allowed into the Embassy. The Embassy will not store any personal items on your behalf. Absolutely no exceptions will be made. If you come with any additional items, your appointment will be rescheduled.

Applicants must wear face masks at all times — except for a brief moment at the start of the interview in order to verify applicants’ identities. No masks will be provided by the Embassy. If you do not have a mask, you will not be allowed into the Embassy. You will be expected to maintain social distancing (2 meters) while at the Embassy.

These procedures have been implemented to protect the health of applicants and our staff at the Embassy. We thank you for understanding and for following the above guidelines throughout this process.

If you have urgent travel within the next two weeks and wish to apply for an emergency passport, you may book an appointment to appear at the U.S. Embassy in Manila here or you may contact the U.S. Embassy in Manila at ACSInfoManila@state.gov to request an in-person appointment. Write “emergency passport” in the subject line of your email.

Emergency passports are limited in validity. We will provide you with information at your interview about how to replace your emergency passport with a full validity passport.

A consular officer will determine if your situation meets the standard for an emergency (if your situation is not considered an emergency, you may be asked to book an online appointment and return to the embassy at a later date). We will then email you to confirm your interview appointment date and time. You must bring to your interview proof of urgent travel (e.g. purchased ticket/s, flight confirmation, or confirmation of medical or legal appointments that require you to travel internationally within the next two weeks).
